The Gibraltar HR Forum was founded in 2000 to provide an open forum for HR practitioners. It derived originally because at that time HR was a relatively new profession in Gibraltar and a number of new companies were moving to Gibraltar bringing with them HR practitioners from the UK and other locations; and whilst Gibraltar employment legislation was similar to that of the UK there were some fundamental differences and the local employment services and systems were very different.

The intention was to enable opportunities for an exchange of information, support new comers, promote goods and services that would be of use to HR functions and form a professional body that would represent HR interests and best practice. Any person who had HR as part of their remit was welcome - and still is!

There is no requirement to have professional membership of the UK CIPD but it is actively encouraged and many members are now undertaking courses to attain the professional qualification.

The first meetings were attended by a small number of companies but as time has passed the Forum has grown with more than seventy companies participating in meetings and events.

The Forum now has a structured committee with members nominated annually for the position of Chair, Treasurer, secretary and six committee members. There is a small annual fee paid by participating companies and the independent practitioners.

There are regular meetings with invited speakers who have represented training providers, healthcare providers, recruitment services, the careers service and an opportunity to exchange information and meet with other HR practitioners.

This web site is intended to take the Forum to a more professional level with a general information section plus detailed sections giving specialist information for paid up members.  We welcome new members and look forward to continued growth in membership and activities. Our ultimate aim is to be a recognised affiliate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
